A man had a surprise yesterday morning when he woke up three thousand miles from where he fell asleep, all thanks to his driverless car.
Tim Davies, 36, a high school English teacher from Utah was in Las Vegas this weekend to attend his brother’s bachelor party. The Davies’ brothers and a small group of friends were staying in an AirBnB on Prudhoe Bay street - a location chosen by the eager hikers so that they could spend the weekend trekking in the Sloan Canyon - little did Mr. Davies know that he would wake up closer to the Alaskan mountainside!
‘I should have known we would’ve ended up on the strip,’ a dazed Mr. Davies told our reporters - a modest evening in a local bar soon turned into a heady night inside Vegas’ famed casinos. it is not clear when Mr. Davies split from the group, but at 3AM he called his car to pick him up and take him back to his AirBnB - but instead of taking him to Vegas's Prudhoe Bay street, the car took him all the way up to Prudhoe Bay, AK. Needless to say, Mr. Davies was in for a surprise when he woke up to the sound of a snow plow.
On a positive note, the journey is testament to the driverless car's safety - such a route would be dangerous to attempt in one sitting for a human driver, let alone one under the influence. Mr. Davies's car managed to take him across two international borders without waking him and even found the time to fill itself up with gas. The car’s route history and billing shows that he took the Hyperway.
‘I’m just glad that I wasn’t the one driving,’ he said, ‘If I tried to drive, I might not be alive today!’ Driverless cars are largely considered responsible for the sharp decrease in drunk-driving incidents, whilst DUI charges have fallen sharply across all states since driverless cars outnumbered human-driven cars.
Mr. Davies told us that he’d try his best not to do the same on the wedding day.
