Driverless cars to be issued to the visually-impared
Blind and visually-impared Americans are set to be gifted driverless cars by the state. The move is expected to radically change the life of a visually-impared American citizen, radically boosting their independence and greatly increasing their standard of life.
MOTOR-CORP has sponsored the initiative, promising to donate fifty thousand vehicles this year, with five-thousand yearly going onwards. The manufacturers lead the market in driverless cars and have become the gold-standard of safety - they made headlines last week when a vehicle saved its driver from a mountain lion attack.
Whilst the initiative will undoubtedly benefit blind people across the country, skeptics have begun to question the legal conditions on the leased cars. The driver’s are not allowed to be considered ‘owners’ of the car, only ‘riders’, therefore relinquishing proprietorship of the vehicles. Insiders have alleged that MOTOR-CORP intends to rent these cars to private companies for use when the blind driver is occupied. In other words, the cars will be couriering packages or making food deliveries while the blind driver is at work, or sleeping.
If this is true, the MOTOR-CORP would be able to avoid taxation on commercial use by claiming that the vehicles are dominant for a public service.
The initiative also states that blind riders are eligible for the vehicles only if they meet the financial, occupational and educational requirements. Skeptics allege that MOTOR-CORP are ensuring users are occupied for large amounts of the day, an ideal time to lease the vehicles to private companies.
Whether or not these rumors are true, there is no doubt that blind people across the country will benefit from these vehicles - blind communities in America eagerly await delivery.
