Residents in White Plains, New York, have been warned by local law enforcement agents to be on the lookout for a rogue delivery robot!
After a slew of creepy rumors and eye-witness reports, the warning was officially issued after an unsettling call came in from a frightened elderly woman who claimed she found the robot right on her doorstep, stealing her Amazon package.
This was just the latest reported incident of many involving the runaway robot, who up until now, police considered to be little more than hyperbole or a prank being pulled by kids.
The robot, who has yet to be identified, is presumed to have been a delivery robot based on its love for snapping up peoples packages and either delivering them to different addresses or tearing them open for “inspection”.
The delivery company has not been able to reclaim the robot yet as its GPS tracker is apparently disconnected and its location cannot be pinpointed. Whether this occurred accidently or was done intentionally by an outside source such as a disgruntled employee or by the bot itself is something that can only be speculated at the moment. The robot is believed to be operating autonomously, as it has been captured on surveillance cameras using public charging stations to recharge its battery.
With its tracker disabled and the somewhat concerning level of the bot’s seemingly self-conscious behavior, it is not clear what to expect next. Urban legends have already started to spread surrounding the story. People are saying that the robot stalks the streets at night following people who carry anything resembling a box. It also roams silently through backyards, attempting to enter houses through open windows in the basement or unlocked doors.
Rumor has it that because the bot worked in the area, it may have memory of its previous delivery routes as well as access to the GPS mapping. So, you should be careful when your next package arrives and better postpone requesting a pick up of your return items.
But perhaps the most unnerving part, is the fact that it looks identical to every other delivery robot out there. So, you’ll never be able to tell which one is the rogue bot!
